Forest Stewardship CouncilTM (FSCTM)

FSCTM is a wood plantation managing system aiming for good economic yield. Communities will receive benefits from the plantation. The plantation does not affect the environment and even sustainably revives and reserves the natural conditions.

*The Siam Forestry Co., Ltd., owned by SCG Pacakging, is the first wood plantation company in Thailand to support the paper manufacturing and certified for its plantation areas by FSCTM.

Featuring high-quality seedlings, ready for planting.

1. Trunks and tops are in perfect condition. Leaves are not eaten by worms or insects. Stems and leaves are not infected or destroyed by fungus.

2. The tree height from the root collar is 20-50 cm.

3. The size of root collar is above 2 mm.

4. Number of leaves is 3 pairs and above

5. Perfect root system with tight weave around the nursery material.

6. Saplings have single tops and no side branches.

7. No weeds or grass in the mixture

8. Remove tubes and pack the seedlings in plastic bags, 50 each.

The advantages of producing seedlings in tissue culture are consistent growth and immunity to mutation. High-yielding (weighing 15-25 tons/rai/4 years), these seedlings are very popular nowadays as they guarantee high profits.

•  Integrated services

1. Soil examination or analysis before planting.

2. Analysis of returns and investment.

3. Provision of experienced planting team.

4. Delivery of seedlings from the nursery to the plantation.

5. Consulting and maintenance of eucalyptus plantation.

6. Plantation products evaluation

7. Cutting and transporting timber from the plantation to the factory.

• Plant Service Conditions

3.1 Land lease and joint plantation

  •  The plantations are in the same area of land or close to one another, covering 200 rai and above.
  • Within 200-km radius from Kanchanaburi province (Wang Sala Plant) to Ratchaburi province (Ban Pong Plant) to Khon Kaen province (Phoenix plant).

                - Title deeds certified by government officials include Certificate 3.

                - The duration of the joint project is 1 rotation of 5 years and above.

3.2 Contract Farming. Buying seedlings at special rates will bring the benefits of price guarantee for purchase and integrated service throughout the course of planting.

3.3 Open market for those who are not interested in becoming members.

3.4 Support project collaboration with government agencies such as Agricultural Land Reform Office (ALRO), military, Subdistrict Administrative Organization (SAO), temples and schools.

• Planting patterns

Eucalyptus Commercial Plantation

4.1 All-area single planting with 2x3 meter spacing (270 seeds/rai) or 3x3 meter spacing (180 seeds/rai) where the 3-meter side is parallel with east - west direction.  This pattern produces higher yield per rai and prevents land encroachment.

4.2 Planting with agricultural crops such as corns or cassava with 2x3 meter and  3 x3 meter spacing (only in the 1st year) or (3x1.5) x10 meter spacing: 160  seeds/rai (grown in any year). This pattern produces annual yield from selling agricultural crops. After 4 years, certain income will be gained from logging eucalyptus and putting them up for sale.

4.3 Planting on the dyke, along the canal or the fence with 1.50 - 2.0 meter spacing. In 2-row or zigzag planting, the spacing is 1.50 meter with 80 - 100 seeds/rai. This pattern increases weight per tree and yield per area.

• Summary of rights and benefits of integrated planting with The Siam Forestry.

“Low investment, Easy to grow, Earning through the year”

1. Requires small investment but grows fast and appeals to markets

2. Once planted, produces 3 rounds of yield (4 years per round, 12 years in total)

3. Saves money as one can delay logging, unlike perishable agricultural crops.

4. Requires less work and care than other plants.

5. Can be sold at market prices as the demand is strong.

6. Produces faster payback and high yield

7. Members can buy the seedlings at special price

• Useful facts about eucalyptus

1. Eucalyptus makes harmless, industrial crops

Eucalyptus is native to Australia, where 500 of its species exist. The Forestry Department had brought the genus into Thailand and had been growing it for more than 50 years. Confirmed by scholars that, "Planting eucalyptus is not toxic to the environment," today the plant has grown 3 million rai across the country. Once grown, eucalypts mature quickly and can be cut down after 4-5 years. When cut, it sprouts again, allowing 3-4 rounds of logging. The plant is resistant to diseases and insects and able to grow in sandy loam with good drainage. Eucalyptus can be planted in combination with other plants such as corn, cassava, pineapples, etc. As this requires proper management, company has a team of consultants offering advice for the general public.

2. Eucalyptus reduces carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

Eucalypts reduce the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere since trees take in CO2 as a raw material for photosynthesis  (i.e., to improve the food for their growth). In the photosynthesis process of a plant, creating one ton of wood will require 1.81 tons of carbon dioxide. Simultaneously, it will emit 1.30 tons of oxygen back to nature. So if you were to plant a rai of eucalyptus and take good care of it, you will not only make 15 tons of wood (lasting 5 years), but also reduce 27 tons of carbon dioxide. In addition, eucalypts will emit 19.50 tons of oxygen to nature, effectively reducing the greenhouse effect caused by the burning of plants and traffic pollution.

3. Other benefits apart from application in pulp and paper production

Eucalyptus can be used for building houses, furniture, parquet, foundation piles and skids. The indirect benefits include restoration of alkaline soil in the Northeast, addition of green space in the environment, etc.
